First find a picture of the gun you want to model from the side. Then put it on your backdrop of the modeling window. Take the filled pen tool and trace parts. I did, main body, handle, ammo clip, upper part of barrel, and lower part of barrel, but it differs from gun to gun. Like if you were to model a shotgun, trace the handle and part of the barrel together, the reloding part and so on. Extrude each part. Then take the picture of the gun, put it in photoshop, and select the part of the picture of the each extruded object you've made. Copy and past each part you've selected on to a new window. Save and you've got a custom texture for that part. Look at the gallery for the SG550 I made.
