Artist's Comments: !div style="display:none"!fjrigjwwe9r2gallery:imagedesc!/div!!div style="display:none"!edf40wrjww2gallery:imagedesc!/div!Lately I've been playing the game "Myst III: Exile" for 3D inspiration. Just for the heck of it, I tried to create an iron metal pattern wrapped around a cylinder as some structures in Myst have. My model is simple for the sake of the experiment.

First, I simply created a cylinder. Then I made a "displacement" map of the iron metal pattern in Photoshop and added that as the first texture to the model.

Second, I just added an interesting texture and used Cylindrical mapping for that. Next, I added a "brush metal" texture over that. Using a Stencil map I limited the brushed metal texture to the "iron metal" form created by the displacement map.

This experiment allows me to create some modeling I've been thinking about doing. I just took what I've been taught here and applied it. If you like, you can email me and I'll send you a zipped version of the model for you to look at.

I don't know about you, but, I'm pretty jazzed. :)
