Interesting discussion earlier today regarding 3D World Magazine's review of Strata 3D along with 4 other mid range 3D apps.

While the actual article wasn't available, the person who posted did link to the picture that the review tried to emulate with the programs. He said he ot as far as modelling the cup, liquid and orange in 45 minutes. That was it.

So, the challenge was to see how far one could really go with Strata in 45 minutes.

Not being one of the Guru's here, I figued I'd give it a try.

I modelled the cup, coffee fill, and saucer as lath objects, did the handle as a path exrude object, the spoon as a combination of a skin and a modified sphere object, the place matt as 2 rectangluar planes (one underneath the other), and the orange as a sphere converted to a Bezier object that I pushed and pulled a bit.

Then I modelled a glowdome for lighting, textured almost all surfaces from scratch (made em up as I went along), except for the wood table top, which was a Strata preset.

In 45 minutes. And I'm not one of the "experts".

The final rendering was a standard Radiosity Best, with a bump up to Fine in the Texture detail settings. 16 additional minutes.

I'm sure one of our residential guru's could even top that (Michael, Chris, Duncan, etc..).. but for this "average" user, it wasn't hard at all.

:)
