Here's something I bumped into recently, thought it might help others.
It's been my practice to build a model from various parts, group it and convert it to PM before exporting it to stl. I check my models with netfab ( recommended by Jeanpro ) and very often they have holes, non-manifold edges etc. So I was designing something recently, a bracelet. Did my model, replicated the parts for a bracelet, grouped the parts, converted to Poly mesh and exported it to netfab for checking and it was riddled with faults. Confused I went back to my original part and broke it down into its parts. All individual parts had been modeled cleanly, no holes or non-manifold edges. But when I grouped them and converted them they had multiple faults. Through trial and error I assembled the multiple replicated parts into a bracelet and skipped the group and convert process, simply exported the entire model as an obj, opened it in netfab and it was entirely error free. Sent it to the print bureaux and they also reported the model was error free.
