I have just started with Strata Photo 3D (trial). I need to build a mesh for something the size of a refrigerator. Can this program handle this? Are there any instructions that don't start with "print the calibration mat"?

You can use the Marker system. It was designed for objects that are too large for the calibration mat. See Chapter 7 in the User Guide, on page 78.

I just downloaded the software and haven't had time to really sit down with it yet. I'm curious, does the calibration mat necessarily have to be the one that comes with the program? Or can a custom mat be used assuming it is comprised of unique markers?

I need to model large objects in the vicinity of 50x100 inches. I know about the 'manual' marking option, just wondering if using large custom calibration mats/strips using poster board (placed on different planes, and the object itself) could make the manual marking process easier?

Am I correct in that any calibration markers present ultimately help determine the position of the camera? That the object itself doesn't necessarily need to be the primary focus of all the markings? And that the program itself can use any printed markers for calibration? Or is it programmed to specifically work with the mat configuration that comes with the program?

The program is designed to work specifically with the calibration mat printed from the software. It means it is very fast and accurate.

If you want to make the "manual" marking easier you can incorporate additional targets into the scene - but you will still need to manually place all the markers.
