Last week we talked a little about FCP and the student discounts available. I have in my hot little hand FCP 3.0 and all I paid was $299.00. At the Apple site I registered as a student of my local junior college and that was it!! I never had to produce any proof!!

This is a hell of a deal and I hate to leave Strata but what can I say?

I also picked up a training course from dvcreators. Hope I can learn this thing

Wow, I realy want that program.
What's the best? Strata DVpro or Final Cut Pro?

I think this question is asked before...

But I want to know the good and the bad for both programs so I know which one I have to buy.

After last night I think Strata's bugs pushed me over the edge. As soon as I get the cash, I am getting Premier or Final Cut Pro.

-easy to use and learn
-plently of specal FX

-not entirely stable
-play back can get very choppy
-other bugs that have to be worked around

-you can do almost anything in it if you're good enough
-it is almost like premier and after effects combined
-real time effects

-tough learning curve
-price (unless you can get it academically)

Overall, Final cut pro is much better. Strata is nice, but I really wouldn't consider it pro level software. It's a bit pricey for what it offers, and other programs at the same price are more capable.

Yeah, FCP is miles apart from the competition. A real pro package. I have been using it for about 4 months now, still only scrathing the surface, and am still astounded by it's tool set and ease (believe it or not) of use ( I say that because I first made films on 8mm). There isn't anything close to it until you get to AVID - about £600 more at it's cheapest incarnation. The only thing about FCP is that it is total overkill unless you mean to use it for broadcating (tv) or film production.
